#Sea of thieves private server update#
“We’ve talked in the past – and more recently – about the potential for private servers in the future for Sea of Thieves,” executive producer Joe Neate says in the latest developer update video. But it sounds like Rare is getting serious about private servers – just expect them to take a while. Players have come together on Discords and the like get together in de facto PvE sessions, but that’s not officially supported. PLUS they actually implement new activites and events to entice more people to PVP, a current example being the reapers chest, randomly spawning in shipwrecks they mark you on the map if you carry them, and offer a huge payout, they can only be cashed in at a single point on the entire map and you get bonus rewards for selling a stolen reapers chest. Throws an entire skillset away and i believe the new player would get bored pretty soon and leave the game.Īpart from that RARE has stated there will never be PVE Servers, since they themselves acknowledge this would destroy their own entire game philosophy.

Whats so fun about doing quests if theres no danger to it? PVE Danger's hardly ever sink an experienced crew.Īnother Point: Imagine youre a new player, you get sunk once or twice and then switch to a PVE Server so noone can ever destroy your hard work again, theyd never learn how to defend themselves or learn anything about ship to ship combat, being in a good postion or in a bad one etc. The PVE Servers would lack the sense of danger, and be a giant grindfest, which would make people who play on those servers lose the fun really quickly.

So the biggest incentive to PVP is gone on the PVP Servers, getting lucky and sinking a ship full of hoarded loot. Nobody would do any quests on the PVP Servers, since they only look for other players too loot, but the other players dont have any loot, since they arent doing any quests, since they themselves are looking for players to steal loot from. So the People who like to PVP would only end up with other People who only PVP. Lets say PVE Servers were included, people who mostly like PVE had no reason to jump into the PVP Servers. And secondly split the playerbase creating 2 equally unfun to play in environments.

PVE Servers would firstly absolutely ruin this immersive feeling, of being unsure about others intentions. Sea of Thieves was designed around being a PVEVP Game, that there is the constant danger of other players and not knowing theyre intention. Right now i see a lot of people here begging for private servers, or PVE only servers, and they often say that nobody gives them a proper example on why that would be a bad thing. Let me start off by saying that i play this game pretty actively since near the end of year 1 after release, and i think i have a pretty good idea about the mechanics.
